Health and wellness within the classroom is not only a recent development in teaching, it is also a lasting development that will become more important in the classroom as teaching becomes more blended and internet dependent. Students will need the time and motivation to move and use full body responses in the classroom. Following are some ways in which an educator could incorporate health and wellness into their lessons:
1. Some educators have special needs student in class that respond well to whole body exercises being coupled with new concepts. For a basic math lesson on the introduction of the PEMDAS method an educator could show the video located here after explaining the concept. This could also be a chance for the entire class to get up and move about, health and wellness are often neglected in math and this is something that can be changed. 2. To address health and wellness educators should make time for a 5 minute ‘brain-break’ stretch session between the introduction and body of any lesson. Having students exercise and break in class can improve cognitive performance (Thompson, 2013). Reference are found in the REFERENCES PAGE.
