Living Situation

There are many considerations educators must incorporate into every unit of instruction, living situation is not the least among them. Following are some ways that educators can create units of instruction whilst considering the different living situations in their classrooms:

1. The following example is from a PEMDAS math lesson. To be conscientious of the fact that not everyone in the classroom has living aunts, instead of using ‘Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally’ an educator should use “Purple Eggplants Make Delicious Afternoon Snacks” as the acronym. This takes away any undue stress on the student and also could hopefully lead to healthier eating habits.

2. When an educator creates essential questions they should keep in mind that not all students have the same financial background. Therefore, when creating essential questions for math it is best not to use examples that remind students of needing to have money that they might not have in the classroom (Lind, 2017).
